PROJECTS

Our projects are a mixture of humanitarian programmes, starting social enterprises and programmes with support the development of young changemakers. The aim of our projects is to design a plan around what best suits the needs of the individual or communities we are working with, so they vary depending on where they are in Myanmar.

Education

Right now we are focussing on providing the best possible education for our children in our two homes, including English lessons and computer/programming lessons. Our wider ambition is to start up several other education projects, particularly looking at how we can help start or better equip schools in rural areas such as Chin and Kachin States, which is where many of our children come from.

Empowering Young Changemakers

Myanmar is at an exciting if not challenging time, and many young people are looking at how they can have a positive impact in their communities. We are looking to start a programme to equip, empower and enable young changemakers to bring positive change to the communities around them. By developing partnerships with existing organisations, we can deliver programmes embedded into the local context, offering ongoing support and mentorship and connections to wider networks.

Establishing and supporting social enteprises

With Myanmar being an extremely entrepreneurial country and community driven, we have seen an increase in the demand for the start up of social enterprises, particularly from women. All the business we work with will have a strong social mission and impact. Our focus is to invest into projects with the following criteria:

  • Business with the potential to scale up and provide more jobs

  • Businesses working in developing sectors i.e. tourism

  • Businesses lead by one or a community of women with a strong social purpose - i.e midwifery, seamstress etc

Mandalay

We are working with a local partner to explore how we can best provide housing and education for orphans who have escaped the recent conflicts in Rakhine State. We will be working with a local family to provide care for up to ten children initially whilst we look for options to purchase land to build a children's home, school and clinic.

We aim for the project to be sustainable in the long term by investing and developing several local businesses who will be able to contribute to the running of the children's home and school. The project will be supported and empowered by various different businesses, which in turn will provide jobs, development opportunities and further training to the wider community.
